Shortly following the launch of Google's first-ever Chromebook manufacturing facility in Pakistan, the search giant successfully registered itself in Pakistan in a bid to establish a local office in the country.
Google's Chromebook manufacturing facility was established in Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).
The announcement of the future Google office in Pakistan was brought to light by State Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja during a press conference.
“Google has announced its entry into Pakistan, having completed its registration, and will soon establish its office here.”
The IT minister highlighted that the local assembly of Chromebooks in the country is expected to produce between 500,000 and 600,000 units annually, facilitating technology transfer and creating direct employment opportunities.
She also mentioned plans for exporting these Chromebooks, which will likely lead to an expansion of the assembly line in the future.
Google's Chromebook assembly line was established through a partnership involving Google for Education, local partner Tech Valley, the NRTC, and Australia-based Allied.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Google and the IT ministry was also signed recently, which is aimed at providing tech training to youth in the country, particularly in Artificial Intelligence (AI), the IT minister revealed.
The spate of Google-backed services to Pakistan gets complemented as Meta’s Llama AI platform has been launched in Urdu.
