As we approach Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” event in just a few hours, the Cupertino-based tech giant has disabled the latest feature “Tap to Provision” in its Apple Wallet app in iOS 18.

The launch includes the much-awaited iPhone 16 series comprising four models, including the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone Pro Max along with the iOS 18 release, the Apple Watch SE 3, and AirPods 4.

This update was posted by a tipster sleuth Aaron Perris on X (formerly called Twitter), revealing that the tech giant has disabled the “Tap to Provision” feature on Thursday, meaning it won’t be available for any users running iOS 18.0 or iOS 18.1 beta.

What is “Tap to Provision” feature?

Previously, Apple Wallet got a major boost with iOS 18 with the “Tap to Provision” feature, allowing users to add a new debit or credit to Apple Pay by simply tapping the Near-field communication (NFC)-supported card to iPhone.

As the feature was enabled in iOS 18 beta, it was used as a default method for adding a new card to Apple Pay, allowing users to skip additional steps of taking a picture of the card or typing in the numbers manually.

However, simply tapping the card wasn’t enough to add a card to Apple Pay. Like other methods, users still needed to receive a code from their bank via SMS to complete the process.

It seems like the feature didn’t work properly for many of the users that’s why Apple is likely to delay its release.
