Apple is working on a new app similar to App Store which will be dedicated to games, creating a centralised hub for iOS gaming, according to a report.

Currently, Apple offers Apple Arcade, a subscription-based service, that costs $6.99 per month to provide access to multiple games for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV.

New app for gaming in iOS

Citing sources, 9to5Mac reported that Apple’s new app will likely combine functionality from the App Store and Game Centre. It won’t be replacing the Game Centre but will integrate the user’s profile from it.

It was also reported that the app will feature multiple tabs, including a “Play Now” tab to let users access their game library, view friends’ activities, and more. It will also allow finding editorial content and game suggestions.

The app will also include challenges, leaderboards, achievements, and games from both the App Store and Apple Arcade while functioning like the Xbox app for iPhone.

Additionally, the tech giant is adding social gaming features through FaceTime and iMessage integration which will simplify communication with others during gaming.

While Apple is yet to confirm the release schedule of the new gaming store, the report also suggested that it might be introduced as a part of the iOS 18.1 update or iOS 19 next year.
