Google is updating its device tracking system, Find My Device, with the addition of a long-awaited biometric login option.
As a vital service for Android users, the Find My Device app helps users recover their lost devices. Earlier in May, it was reported that the tech giant is working to add a biometric login option on the “Find My Device” app.

Recently, Android Authority confirmed that the feature is now available in the recent update (version 3.1.173-1), allowing users to log in using biometric authentication, a password, or a PIN.

Currently, Find My Device requires users to log in with their password only with an option to tick the "Don't ask again" box. However, this makes the phone less secure, making it easy for anyone to access the app and change the list of devices.
On the contrary, the new biometric option offers a more streamlined login option, without compromising on security.
The biometric login option is enabled by default in the Find My Device app. If a user hasn't set up the biometric option for unlocking the screen, they will still have to enter a Google account password in the app.
Google is also planning to introduce a new layout on the Find My Device app for tablet users shifting the additional options to a new side panel. However, the tech giant has yet to confirm when this new layout will be released publicly.
