Good news for overseas Pakistanis looking to import used cars in Pakistan, as the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has decided to defer a ban on the import of three-year-old used cars for overseas Pakistanis under the Personal Baggage, Transfer of Residence, and Gift Schemes.
The committee will ask the Commerce Division to take further deliberations from stakeholders before resubmitting the proposal.
During the meeting, chaired by Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb, the ECC also reviewed a proposal from the commerce ministry regarding the import and export policies for precious metals and jewellery.
The committee approved the continuation of the existing framework while introducing measures for better transparency and automation to boost efficiency.
Besides, the committee also approved several financial proposals, including a TSG of Rs2.5 billion for establishing the Pakistan Maritime Science and Technology Park under the Pakistan Navy.
Another TSG equivalent to AED 45 million was approved for the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) to settle an overdraft for its construction projects in the UAE.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) requested and received approval for a TSG of Rs455.984 million to cover expenses for Local Government Elections in FY 2025-26.
The Finance Division’s request for Rs112.118m for installing electricity meters in the Pakistan Mint Residential Colony was also approved. The ECC approved Rs21.5m for helicopter maintenance spare parts for the Pakistan Rangers (Punjab).
