The Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has issued a letter to all directors to take action against tax defaulters and vehicles with fancy number plates.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by the Minister for Excise and Taxation. "Unregistered vehicles and private cars using government number plates to be seized," stated the letter.

On October 10, Sindh Inspector General (IG) Ghulam Nabi Memon announced that a new e-challan system for traffic violations will come into effect in Karachi on October 27.

He noted that the e-challan system had been temporarily suspended until the new system is released. According to the new schedule, in Karachi, motorcyclists without a license will face a fine of Rs20,000, car drivers will be fined Rs30,000, and heavy vehicle drivers will be fined Rs50,000.

Earlier in August, the Excise Department extended the deadline for replacing existing vehicle number plates with Ajrak-themed number plates to October 31.

It should be noted that the Sindh government's move to mandate new vehicle number plates caused significant inconvenience for Karachi citizens, sparking a wave of fines, vehicle seizures, and rising frustration among the public.
