Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government on Wednesday decided to redesign the passport, giving it a modern look that highlights the country's cultural and architectural heritage and adding advanced safety features.
Following the approval from Ministry of Interior, the Directorate General of Immigration (DGIP) is set to move forward with the redesign process of the passport.
The new passport will showcase photographs and important buildings from all four provinces — Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan — allowing travellers to carry a symbol of Pakistan's rich heritage.
According to officials, this move aims to highlight country's national identity and improve the security to ensure better protection against forgery, duplication, and misuse of the passport.
The ministry sources said that the printing process of redesigned passport will start in the near future, following the final approval of design and security features to maintain its quality in accordance with the international standards.
It should be noted that once the redesigned passports are launched in Pakistan, it will replace existing versions as citizens will renew their documents.
