In the wake of the continuously escalating battle of artificial intelligence (AI), OpenAI is planning the release of its first open-weight language model, which is purportedly slated to go live later this year.

The rollout of the language model from the ChatGPT maker will come in equipped with reasoning capabilities, the first since the debut of GPT‑2, said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, according to Reuters.

The reason it's called "open-weight" is that the language model's trained parameters (or weights) will be publicly accessible. This indicates that AI developers will be able to use OpenAI's upcoming AI language reasoning model to tailor it as per their needs without needing original training data.

For the unversed, such open-weight AI models differ from the open-source models that offer access to the entire array comprising source code, training data and methodologies.

Announcing the impending release of the open-weight AI model, the OpenAI CEO outlined in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the company will have developers deliberate on what purpose this one-of-a-kind reasoning model can serve.

In that regard, the ChatGPT maker is scheduled to conduct a series of events, starting with one in San Francisco in the coming weeks, followed by more conferences in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
