In what seems to be a distressing development for artificial intelligence (AI) enthusiasts, ChatGPT's new, impending image-generating feature has been delayed for free users.
OpenAI, the developer behind ChatGPT, has postponed its free image-generation feature, reportedly owing to the enormously high demand.
The delay was announced by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, stating that the feature proved to be “more popular than we expected,” prompting an unprecedented rise in usage.
The feature's image-generation capability is brought about by OpenAI’s GPT-4o model. It was introduced recently, letting users be braced with its detail-oriented, realistic images.
As of now, the new image generation feature is exclusively available to paid ChatGPT users who have purchased ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team tiers.
The AI giant did not disclose when the new ChatGPT feature will be rolled out for free-tier users.
One of the standout aspects of the feature is that it's integrated with an autoregressive approach, which processes images progressively from left to right and top to bottom, a method to touch up generated images with detail and realism.
As long as free users are far from gaining access to the higher-end image-generation feature of ChatGPT, they can make the most of OpenAI’s DALL·E tool to generate AI images.
