This decision is part of Punjab's larger clean energy and climate policy, which is headed by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
The primary objective of installing EV charging stations is to encourage people to switch to EVs and help address smog and emissions in large cities.
The adoption of electric vehicles will be facilitated by the expansion of EV charging options at petrol stations.
Additionally, it will lessen reliance on foreign oil, uphold Pakistan's environmental pledges, and encourage innovation in the transportation industry.
The government wants to promote a long-term transition to cleaner mobility by emphasising sustainable transport, which will ease the strain on cities and lessen the cost of fuel for the general public.
Additionally, the Punjab government has approved the installation of 2,000 EV charging stations in strategic areas of the province.
According to industry experts, this move will position Punjab as a leader in environmentally friendly transport, spur innovation in regional mobility solutions, and create green jobs in the infrastructure and EV sectors.
EVs present a competitive alternative due to rising air pollution and fuel prices for urban and intercity commuters.
