In a move to enhance public transport facilities, Sindh Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inaam Memon, announced the new route of the electric bus service in Karachi on Tuesday.

The route will run under the vastly expanded People’s Bus Service (PBS), linking Gulshan-e-Maymar to Tower to enhance connectivity between the northern neighbourhoods of Karachi and the city centre.

The decision was brought to light in a senior-level meeting of the Transport Department, attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) Managing Director Kanwal Nizam Bhutto, along with other high-ranking officials.

Furthermore, the move to expand the PBS to three more districts in Sindh has been made, with 20 new buses set to operate in Khairpur, Shikarpur, and Naushahro Feroze.

The Sindh government will initiate scooter riding training programmes for women and female students in the cities of Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana.

“The initiative will not only improve mobility but will also serve as an important step towards enhancing women’s empowerment and employment opportunities”, said Memon, adding that the government is committed to empowering women and improving travel in cities.

This initiative will be modelled after the existing programme in Karachi. The training will be conducted in collaboration with a private company.
