The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) on Monday rejected social media rumours indicating design changes to the Pakistan passport, terming all such claims 'baseless and misleading'.

Following multiple rumours, the department clarified that no changes have been made to the front cover of the Pakistani passport, adding that the images circulating on social media in this context are 'fake'.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the DGIP said: "Apart from a few security features, no changes are being made to the national passport."

The department has also advised citizens to avoid paying attention to false information being circulated on social media. Moreover, legal action will be taken against those involved in spreading propaganda regarding the changes to the national passport.

Last week, the DGIP announced that visa pages of the new passports will showcase printed images of historical landmarks from various provinces of Pakistan — reflecting the country's rich culture and heritage — and the national passports will now include the mother's name along with the father's name.

The passport will also include security features to fight against forgery and misuse. The department noted that changes are being made in accordance with the standards of 'modernity and harmonisation'.

It should be noted that the printing of new passport booklets has started following approval from the Ministry of Interior.
