In an effort to reconnect Pakistan with Iran and Turkiye, Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi announced that the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul train service is scheduled to resume on December 31, 2025.

The revival of the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul train service highlights the government's efforts to enhance regional connectivity and strengthen trade relations with Iran and Turkey.

A key component of the plan is the development of a new 400-kilometre track for the Reko Diq logistics corridor.

The current railway system covers 884 kilometres, and a distinct $2 billion initiative is being discussed with the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank to enhance the Rohri-Karachi line (approximately 500 km).

Abbasi highlighted several enhancements designed for passengers, such as the establishment of cafeterias and internet access at stations.

"The goal is to make Pakistan Railways a self-sufficient, contemporary network that not only connects borders but also enhances daily travel for all citizens," Abbasi maintained.

Initiatives to enhance cleanliness on trains and at stations are being intensified through a collaboration with the Punjab government as part of the "Clean Punjab Project".

Security improvements involve the installation of 180 CCTV cameras at Rawalpindi station and the recruitment of 1,500 railway police officers.
