In a move to establish Islamabad as Pakistan's first fully cashless and digital city, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched a cashless payment system at its One-Window Facilitation Centre.
This significant initiative was introduced under the leadership of CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, who demonstrated the system's effectiveness by making a digital transaction himself.
Key CDA officials, including Finance Member Tahir Naeem, Environment Member Esfandyar Baloch, and the Director of One Window, were present, along with representatives from Bank Alfalah, Finnect, and other financial partners.
The new system uses QR-code payments linked to popular digital platforms such as EasyPaisa and JazzCash, allowing citizens to make instant payments without needing cash.
Randhawa emphasised that this initiative aligns with the Prime Minister's vision of creating a modern, efficient, and transparent Islamabad while supporting the government's commitment to e-governance and digital transformation.
He noted that QR-based cashless payments are already operational in Islamabad's weekly bazaars and will soon expand to major commercial centres, markets, and retail hubs.
The aim is to reduce cash handling, minimise fraud risk, and enhance the convenience of everyday transactions for residents.
Additionally, Randhawa announced the upcoming Assan Khidmat Markaz, a one-stop service centre being established in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology.
This centre will consolidate all civic services, providing the public with professional, corporate-level assistance.
He reiterated CDA's long-term goal of transforming Islamabad into a fully digital and smart city, where all transactions can be conducted electronically, ultimately eliminating the need for physical cash.
This launch reflects a broader commitment to digitising public services, improving transparency, and positioning Islamabad as a model for cashless urban governance in Pakistan.
