The National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) on Tuesday announced that the government has offered a major facility that citizens across Pakistan can get their first Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) for free within 15 days.

According to Nadra, if you have turned 18 years of age, then you are advised to visit your nearest Nadra centre — apply for a CNIC — complete the process, and get your first CNIC without paying any fee.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Nadra said that it will provide the first CNIC without a chip to citizens for free. "After reaching 18 years, a citizen becomes eligible to vote in general elections."

Last week, Nadra signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Town Municipal Corporation (TMC) to establish the biggest mega centre in Gulberg Town, Karachi.

Nadra said: "The mega centre will feature a fully air-conditioned environment with a central cooling system and a spacious waiting area for visitors.

Dedicated counters for passport services, thalassaemia tests, arms license, and senior citizens will also be established. With the continuous facilities for Pakistanis, Nadra aims to digitalise its services and reduce the waiting time at the centres.
