As Karachi's e-challan system is in full swing and fining motorists for committing traffic violations with thousands of CCTV cameras across the city, DIG Traffic Karachi Peer Muhammad Shah has announced a hefty fine of Rs20,000 for anyone caught riding a motorcycle without a valid driving license.

While disclosing the fine for riding without a licence in Karachi, the DIG Traffic Karachi emphasised the importance of keeping licenses updated and adhering to traffic rules.

No one will be spared from penalties, he asserted.

Besides the license requirement, the speed limit for all vehicles in Karachi has been set at 60 km/h, and drivers exceeding this limit will face fines for overspeeding.

The warning follows the implementation of a new e-challan system in Karachi, which automatically detects traffic violations.

On the first day of its launch, the electronic challan system issued over 2,662 e-challans within just six hours, amassing more than Rs12.5 million in fines.

The rundown of the 2,662 violations includes 419 for overspeeding, 1,535 for not wearing seat belts, 507 for riding without helmets, 166 for running red lights, and 3 for lane violations.

The senior official of the Karachi traffic authority also noted that upgrades are underway to improve the system, in a bid to enhance monitoring and ensure traffic discipline across the city.
