
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is set to launch a new Point of Sale (POS) scheme on Monday (October 28). The initiative aims to promote transparency and accountability by encouraging customers to report non-compliant retailers by invoice submissions.
FBR has also discontinued the previous invoice submission and prize ballot system, effective immediately.
FBR’s new Point of Sale (POS) scheme
According to FBR, prizes will be given to customers for providing fake invoices from retailers. The cash prize will range between Rs10,000 to Rs20,000.

However, upon complaint, POS-connected retailers’ outlets will be sealed if proven guilty of providing fake invoices. To re-open retailers will have to pay a penalty of Rs0.5 million.
FBR’s new scheme’s first phase will be launched in around 600 restaurants and brands connected with POS machines in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) in the first 10 days and will start operating from Monday (October 28).
The scheme will be replicated in other POS-connected shops of different brands in the next 20 days till November 29, 2024, and will be effective from December 1, 2024.
Under the new scheme, if any customer submits fake invoices on purchasing or paying bills less than Rs5,000 if proven right they will be able to draw a prize of Rs10,000. If the fake bill is more than Rs5,000 then Rs20,000 will be awarded.
Furthermore, FBR is also introducing an online app to submit fake invoices.
