The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has introduced a draft version of the electronic income tax return form for the upcoming tax year 2025.
Electronic income tax return forms are online documents that allow taxpayers to submit their income details, deductions, and tax liabilities to the FBR without needing to fill out paper forms.
FBR’s new e-filing tax return draft
The purpose of the system is to streamline the process of filing tax returns and enhance compliance. This is part of FBR's ongoing drive for digitalisation of Pakistan's tax system.
The FBR has issued, for public consultation, the draft revised income tax return forms for individuals and corporate entities through notifications S.R.O. 1212 (I)/2025 and S.R.O. 1213 (I)/2025. New revisions are being implemented using Section 237 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
The draft contains amendments to the Income Tax Rules, 2002, with the intention of providing more clarity and ease of use for online income tax returns. FBR invites suggestions or objections from the relevant taxpayers.
Essentially, any affected taxpayer will have a right to comment on, or object to, the revisions within 7 days of the draft notice in the Official Gazette.
The FBR stated it would consider all responses prior to finalising the return forms, which also demonstrates the FBR's commitment to increased transparency, modernisation, and taxpayer engagement.
