Google Chat is introducing a new “voice message transcription” feature, enabling Android, iOS, and web users to automatically transcribe voice messages in the app.
The tech giant has been enhancing its messaging platform and this new feature follows the introduction of voice messages on Google Chat earlier this year.

Voice messages transcription available in Google Chat
Announced on Tuesday, the voice transcription feature automatically transcribes voice messages into text, similar to transcription capabilities found in Google Meet.
“Starting today, users will be able to see an automatic transcription of voice messages in Chat on the web and mobile. This update enables content consumption in a user’s preferred format or the format that is most convenient at that particular moment,” Google stated on its Workspace Updates.
Once rolled out, users can view any voice message’s transcription by clicking on the “View transcript” option present below the message. However, to hide the transcription, click the “Hide transcript” option.
Additionally, for those who rely on screen readers, Google Chat has also added the ability to treat voice message transcriptions as readable text.
The voice message feature will be available to all Google Workspace customers and Google Workspace Individual subscribers on Android, iOS, and web versions of Google Chat. However, the company has yet to confirm when it will roll out this feature. Notably, it won’t be available on personal accounts.
