Google's messaging app has long supported RCS (Rich Communication Services), which offers an alternative to traditional SMS by enabling users to send high-quality data, including high-resolution pictures, videos, GIFs, and read receipts.
However, users have frequently complained about over-compressed images when sent via this messaging app. Despite its RCS capabilities, Google's app often reduces image quality, detracting from the overall messaging experience.
Recent reports from an Android Authority APK teardown indicate that Google is working to address this issue. The update will allow users to send images up to 8,192 pixels, with JPEG quality set to 100. For faster transmission, images will be compressed to 2,408 pixels and JPEG quality to 90, compared to the current compression limit of 1,600 pixels.

It's important to note that other messaging apps, such as Samsung Messages, also support RCS without these limitations. The reason behind Google's previous restrictions remains unclear.
If Google proceeds with this update, it will undoubtedly enhance the quality of images shared over RCS. There is currently no confirmed release date for this update.
