The government of Pakistan has planned to set up around 10,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by 2030, as announced by Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain on Thursday.

While speaking at an exhibition of electric bike models, organised by the Engineering Development Board (EDB), Hussain emphasised that the government’s ambitious plan will revolutionise Pakistan's transportation landscape.

The government’s new plan involves setting up 10,000 electric vehicle charging stations by 2030, a move expected to significantly benefit both the economy and the environment.

According to the federal minister, around 31 companies have shown interest in investing in electric vehicles in Pakistan, and two of them have already been granted licenses to start manufacturing electric vehicles.

“This development comes as a part of the government's commitment to reducing fuel dependency and promoting eco-friendly transportation in the country,” Hussain added.

Additionally, the second electric vehicle (EV) Policy for Pakistan will be launched by November 30 by the government, aiming to promote electric vehicles countrywide.

However, as a special incentive, the Punjab government will distribute 100 e-bikes for free on merit to top-performing students in various institutions for which Rs4 billion has been allocated by the government.

With growing private sector interest and government-backed incentives, Pakistan is poised to become a hub for electric mobility.
