How to setup a MacBook
By following the steps mentioned below, you can set up your newly bought MacBook easily.
Apple's Touch ID on Macbook
Touch ID sensors are an important part of the Macbook since they've become standard on Apple laptops since 2018.
- Click on the Apple button and navigate to System Settings
- Select Touch ID
- Now click on the Add Fingerprint option to add your fingerprint to your Mac's Touch ID database.
It is important to register at least one fingerprint with Apple and it is securely stored on your device.
Use Desktop Widgets
If you want to access key data at your fingertips, you can use the Desktop Widgets in macOS.
Widgets got a big upgrade in macOS Sonoma.
To get started setting up Widgets on your new MacBooks,
- Right-click anywhere on your Mac desktop to open the menu
- Then click the 'Edit Widgets' option.
However, you must be running macOS Sonoma or a later version to access widgets.
Customise Hot Corners on MacBook
Hot Corners is one of the best features of MacBook which allows you to set a shortcut that launches every time you move your mouse into a corner of your screen. Every Macbook has four corners.
One of the Hot Corner is set to the Quick Note shortcut by default which lets you quickly open a new note in the Notes app.
Steps to change the shortcut:
- Click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen
- Navigate to System Settings > Desktop & Dock.
- Then scroll down to the bottom of the menu and click the Hot Corners button.
This opens the Hot Corners menu, which lets you choose what feature you want to put as a shortcut.
Trackpad setting
If you're used to Windows laptop kind of scrolling setting and don't want to use default scrolling on your new MacBook (which is the reverse of Windows), you can change the settings.
- Click on the Apple in the top-left corner of your desktop
- Select System Settings
- Then click on the Trackpad option
Setting the Dock on MacBook
The Dock is the big ribbon of apps present at the bottom of your macOS desktop. It is used to launch, close and switch between programs.
When you are setting up a new MacBook, you can remove the Apple apps that appear on the Dock by default, like Keynote, Numbers and Pages.
To remove
- Right-click an app
- Now click on the Remove from Dock option and will be removed.
