Internet, mobile and telecom services across Azad Kashmir have been suspended as the region is observing a political turmoil in the wake of a strike on Monday.
The internet deadlock has left residents feeling disconnected from the world, unable to communicate, make transactions, or access information from outside.
The digital blackout was brought to light by relatives of those affected in the region, taking to social media and expressing their frustration at being unable to reach their loved ones.
The disruption comes on the heels of the ongoing internet issues in Pakistan, intensifying the situation.
As noted by TechJuice, telecom operators have confirmed that mobile data and voice services are down across Azad Kashmir, whereas broadband connections in major areas like Muzaffarabad are said to be completely offline.
The notable aspect of the development is that emergency connectivity services are also impacted by the enforced internet shutdown in Azad Kashmir, with messaging apps and landlines being sluggish or not functioning at all.
Reflecting public dissent on a local Reddit thread, one user posted: “I woke up to no network, no data, no calls — completely cut off from family and new,” with another adding: “This is becoming a pattern — whenever things get tense, they cut us off.”
Adding to the woes of those attempting to connect with the outside world, VPN are also said not to be working to access content, residents lamented.
The current internet discord in Azad Kashmir has hampered the lives of individuals, online businesses, freelancers and e-learners, rendering them unable to carry out their routine operations.
