Custom walking routes in Apple Maps with iOS 18

Apple Maps for the first time allows users to create and save custom hiking and walking routes according to their personal preferences. These custom routes can be accessed even when there is no cellular network or Wi-Fi connection available.

Detailed Hikes and Topographic maps

Another notable feature on iOS 18 is that users can now browse thousands of hikes in US national parks such as, from Acadia National Park in Maine to Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska, on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Additionally, Apple Maps also features topographic maps with stunning details like contour lines, trail details, and more to guide users during a hike.

Saved places feature

Apple Maps in iOS 18 allows you to save places directly by tapping the “+” button in the Maps listing. These saved places are easily accessible from the new Library menu along with Guides and Pinned locations. Saved Places on Maps can be sorted by dates, names, and distance.

Personal notes for saved places in Apple Maps

With iOS 18, Apple has introduced the option to add personal notes to your saved places. These notes will appear every time you view the location’s Maps listing.
