The government of Pakistan officially announced the implementation of an improved Web Management System (WMS), which focuses on more efficient handling and regulation of online content across the country.
Recently, the system has been updated by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), which individually monitors, identifies, and blocks websites and mobile apps involved in illegal activities, personal data breaches, or content considered harmful to national security.
Minister for State Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja addressed the ongoing problems in Pakistan's Telecommunication sector, involving a fault in a submarine cable and challenges with internet speed.
The PTA is set to conduct regular quality service surveys to brief public concerns regarding internet performance.
Meanwhile, Khawaja announced that the speed of internet services in Pakistan remains below international standards due to restricted investment in the telecom sector.

Khawaja stated: " Data protection laws are in process to protect consumers data."
Focusing on the efforts to make advancements, Khawaja acknowledged the launch of VPN registration by the PTA and reiterated the government's commitment to keep Pakistan's web management system in line with international standards.
"Currently there are challenges of terrorism or national security, that's why X (formerly Twitter) was temporarily banned on the directive of the Ministry of Home Affairs," Khawaja added.
The PTA has requested the State Bank of Pakistan to relax import restrictions for the telecom sector and to declare it's equipment as an essential priority item.
