Meta is introducing significant upgrades to its cross-platform chatbot, Meta AI. The Facebook parent company has added the ability for the chatbot to remember important details from conversations.

This memory feature resembles those found in other AI chatbots, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google's Gemini.

In a blog post Meta stated that in the United States (US) and Canada, users can ask the AI chatbot to remember certain information about them when interacting with Meta on Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp for Android and iOS.

The feature also allows users to share personal preferences, such as hobbies or dietary restrictions, which Meta AI can recall in future conversations.

For instance, if a user mentions being vegan, Meta AI will take that into account when providing recommendations or answering questions.

However, it's worth noting that Meta AI's memory feature has some limitations. The AI chatbot won't retain information from group chats, and users will have the option to delete the chatbot's memories at any time.

In addition to the memory feature, Meta AI will use account information from across its apps to provide personalised recommendations, meaning it might draw on data from a user's Facebook profile, Instagram activity, or other Meta services.
