In a bid to ensure classroom discipline and reduce students' exposure to excessive screen time, the government of Punjab has officially banned mobile phone use for students in all government and private schools, with immediate effect.
Why Punjab govt has banned smartphones in schools?
The mobile phone ban comes on the heels of a resolution passed by the Punjab Assembly, which emphasised the necessity of maintaining a concentrated academic environment free from digital distractions.
An official notification has been issued by the School Education Department to all district education heads, instructing them to ensure strict adherence to the new policy.
Citing government officials, TechJuice highlighted that students should be encouraged to participate in co-curricular and personality-building activities that are deemed essential for healthy mental and social development.
A senior official stated that this policy would create a “safer, healthier, and more disciplined learning atmosphere” throughout Punjab.
Schools have been directed to closely watch for the implementation of the ban and report any instances of non-compliance.
The initiative is a testament to concerns surrounding the impact of mobile devices on students' academic performance and overall well-being, fostering an environment conducive to learning and personal growth.
