In an incredible response to the rising cyber attacks, Pakistan has successfully foiled two major cyberattacks targeting government institutions.

Officials from the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) confirmed these cyber attacks during a briefing to the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on IT.

The attacks attempted to disrupt various government services, but NTC’s cybersecurity teams prevented their impact in an effective and timely manner. Therefore, institutions managed by NTC remained unaffected.

The corporation provides services to over 3,000 organisations, supporting key operations in 100 cities across the country. They emphasised their commitment to delivering cybersecurity services to government bodies, ensuring a robust digital infrastructure, NTC officials explained.

The committee was also informed about plans to establish a dedicated federal cybersecurity authority to further secure Pakistan’s digital frontiers.

Apart from cybersecurity efforts, NTC officials announced the installation of 30 free Wi-Fi hotspots across Islamabad, with services expected to go live in December.

These measures hint at Pakistan’s increasing focus on digital security and the expansion of free internet access for the public while protecting critical information infrastructure.
