Nokia fans should brace to embrace nostalgia as HMD is gearing up to launch an updated version of the Nokia 800 Tough, nearly six years after the original Nokia 800 Tough debuted in 2019.
A fresh report on X (previously Twitter) shared by a renowned tipster gave us a sneak peek into the design of the second-generation Nokia 800 Tough, suggesting that while the rugged form factor will remain intact, the new Nokia 800 Tough will feature some small yet significant upgrades.
Nokia 800 Tough design details
As far as design is concerned, HMD is not making major changes. The new Nokia 800 Tough is expected to retain its chunky build, textured rear grip, and reinforced edges, which helped it withstand drops and tough conditions.
Nokia 800 Tough specs and features
The most noteworthy improvement is the transition from the outdated micro USB to a modern USB-C port, which allows for faster and more convenient charging.
Coming to the software front, the mobile manufacturer is also planning to upgrade the device from KaiOS 2.5.2 to KaiOS 3.1. This update will provide smoother performance, enhanced system stability, and better app support, including improved compatibility with WhatsApp and Google Maps.
The tough Nokia successor phone will likely maintain its durability profile, featuring IP68 water and dust resistance and MIL-STD-810 military-grade certification, which makes it great for outdoor users, field workers, and adventurers.
Nokia 800 Tough release date
While no information on pricing or a release date has been officially disclosed yet, HMD’s efforts to rebrand and expand its lineup indicate that the new Nokia 800 Tough could be available in select markets soon.
If the development has anything to go by, Nokia 800 Tough's launch would reflect HMD’s commitment to keeping feature phones relevant in a smartphone-dominated world.
