Nothing has started rolling out Nothing OS 4.0, its Android 16-based update, after several weeks of beta testing. The update is currently available for the Nothing Phone (3), while other Nothing and CMF devices are expected to receive it later. The company has not confirmed a timeline for these additional models.

For the Phone (3), the update introduces several exclusive features: Users can now access deeper Flip to Glyph controls and a refined Pocket Mode. Two new Glyph Toys, Hourglass and Lunar Cycle, have been added. The Mirror Selfie feature now allows users to save the original photo as an extra image in the Gallery.

Nothing OS 4.0 also introduces a series of system-wide updates that will come to other devices. Live Updates can show rides, deliveries, and timer information directly on the lock screen and Glyph Interface. Any app that supports Android 16's Live Updates can integrate with Glyph Progress.

A new Extra Dark Mode deepens blacks, enhances contrast, cuts power use, and harmonises the look of notifications, Quick Settings, and the app drawer.

Improved System Motion makes gestures, swipes, and touches more responsive. Animations in apps are smoother, and haptic feedback is now felt at volume limits.

Other additions include new widget sizes: 1×1 and 2×1 for Weather, Pedometer, and Screen Time. Pop-up View enables two floating apps to run simultaneously, with gestures to switch, minimise, or expand them. Hidden Icons enable users to hide apps from the drawer while keeping them accessible with a swipe.
