OpenAI Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Mira Murati made a surprising announcement of her departure from the company and stated on September 25 (Wednesday) that she is exiting for "time and space" and utilising the time for self-exploration.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Murati stated: “I’m stepping away because I want to create the time and space to do my exploration. For now, my primary focus is doing everything in my power to ensure a smooth transition, maintaining the momentum we’ve built.”
Responding to Murati’s departure announcement, OpenAI CEO Altam appreciated and regarded her contributions towards the company’s development from an unknown research lab to transforming into a renowned AI research organisation and served the company for six and a half years.

Additionally, while praising Murati’s contribution, Altman also announced the walking out of two more top officials, Bob and Barret.
Altman said: “Leadership changes are a natural part of companies, especially companies that grow so quickly and are so demanding,” I obviously won’t pretend it’s natural for this one to be so abrupt, but we are not a normal company, and I think the reasons Mira explained to me (there is never a good time, anything not abrupt would have leaked, and she wanted to do this while OpenAI was in an upswing) make sense.”
The news regarding OpenAI CTO Mira Murati’s departure came right before the major annual developer conference in San Francisco. Murati also worked as an interim CEO of the company during the instability period of the company when Altman was ousted by the board of directors, but her commitment and contributions towards the company will always be remembered and cherished.
