In a significant development, OpenAI has announced that it will expand its artificial intelligence (AI) agent "Operator" to more countries.
This expansion coincides with a significant milestone for ChatGPT, which surpassed 400 million weekly active users in February.
What is 'Operator?'
Originally launched in January 2025 in the United States (US), AI agent "Operator" can take over a user's PC and perform tasks autonomously.
The AI agent tool is powered by OpenAI’s Computer-Using Agent (CUA) and is capable of handling complex tasks such as writing code, booking travel tickets, making restaurant reservations, filing expense reports, and even shopping on e-commerce websites.
Moreover, it can interact seamlessly with graphical user interfaces (GUIs), including buttons, menus, and text fields.
OpenAI expands 'Operator' availability
The AI agent "Operator" will now be available for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the United Kingdom (UK).
However, it won’t be rolled out immediately in the European Union (EU) regions such as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland due to regulatory concerns.
Available to subscribers on the $200-per-month ChatGPT Pro plan, the AI agent is accessible via a dedicated web page.
In the meantime, the AI company is planning to expand it to all ChatGPT users shortly.
Notably, the market for this technology is highly competitive, with several companies, including Google, Anthropic, and Rabbit, developing similar AI agents.
