Pakistan has taken a significant step towards the future by approving the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy 2025 as a road map to fuel the economy, generate jobs, and acquire skills for the next decade.
Notably, on Wednesday the federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the policy that has laudable goals.
The policy envisions training one million AI professionals, scholarships for 3,000 individuals annually, and developing 1,000 local AI products by 2030.
Additionally, the plan aims to undertake 50,000 AI-based projects across the sectors of health, education, agriculture, and governance.
AI Policy 2025 enables opportunities for young people in Pakistan by enabling technology for everyone.
Moreover, the AI policy creates opportunities for women and persons with disabilities to participate in AI training, and the policy recognises initiatives to stimulate innovation through an AI Innovation Fund and AI Venture Fund consistent with bringing private companies into the fold.
The cabinet was briefed on the global AI revolution that will occur by 2030, estimated by experts to add trillions of dollars to the world economy.
Furthermore, the govt approved action to create and operationalise an AI Council to manage the rollout and an Action Plan that will allow it to monitor and evaluate progress. The policy also speaks to the use of AI innovation for functional requirements, including cybersecurity, environment management, and public services.
