Pakistan’s first LLM development: Jazz partners with NUST, NITB

Jazz has announced the development of Pakistan’s first Local Large Language Model (LLM), marking a major milestone in local AI innovation.

In collaboration with the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) and the National Information Technology Board (NITB), Jazz aims to create an LLM to empower stakeholders with AI-driven solutions, addressing the country's specific challenges.

Moreover, through this partnership, innovative AI applications will be integrated to enhance productivity.

Effective for five years, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) focuses on the development of the LLM with a shared vision of sustained innovation and partnership.

“This partnership marks a pivotal moment for Pakistan’s digital future, enabling us to preserve and promote our linguistic and cultural heritage through advanced AI,” stated Pakistan's State Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja while addressing the event.

Jazz CEO Aamir Ibrahim stated: “Through partnerships like this with NUST and NITB, we can close the digital divide.”

“This collaboration is a national cause with which we aim to lay the foundation for a transformative AI framework in Pakistan,” Ibrahim concluded.

“NUST can advance AI in Pakistan. This collaboration with Jazz and NITB is key for AI adaptation nationwide. We are paving the way for a forward-looking digital identity framework,” said NUST Rector Engr Javed Mehmood Bukhari.

The initiative will move forward with the support of top executives, including NITB CEO Dr. Baber Majid Bhatti, Jazz Chief Data & Strategy Officer, Syed Ali Naseer, Jazz Chief Technology Officer Khalid Shehzad, and NUST Pro-Rector Dr. Rizwan Riaz.
