The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has finalised the initial trial to entirely impair unregistered Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) which is part of its full-fledged clampdown starting in December.
Citing sources, ProPakistani reported that the telecom regulatory body has also planned a second trial slated to commence in the near future.
Prior to be fully blocked and become non-functional, the PTA will extend a grace period to unregistered VPNs to abide by the government and proceed to the registration process until November 30.

The regulatory body has announced a crackdown across the country against VPNs failing to comply with the directives it issued within the given respite of time. The suppression drive will be launched on December 1.
The interior ministry last week directed PTA to block all unregistered VPNs owing to security risks, claiming that such VPNs can lead to the exposure of sensitive data and allow users to access inappropriate content on the internet.
The publication also reported that plans are underway with PTA to initiate a second trial and extend unregistered VPN users a two-week notice before striking enforcement measures.
