Punjab govt conducts cloud seeding operation for artificial rainfall

Government views this operation as a sustainable step towards addressing Punjab’s smog crisis by the government

The government of Punjab successfully conducted the could seeding operation by using locally developed technology On Friday. 

The operation was conducted to artificially induce rainfall in Jhelum, Gujar Khan, Chakwal and Talagang. It was carried out at around 2pm, which resulted in rainfall in the targeted areas of Punjab. 

Experts believe that such an operation should take place in Lahore to tackle the smog crisis. Specialised collaborations from institutions including Pakistan’s Strategic Plans Division (SPD), Army Aviation, Pak-Arab Refinery Limited (PARCO), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Punjab government were also sought to make this operation possible.

This kind of initiative underlines the region's dedication to using innovative technology to tackle environmental issues. Chief minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz marked this event as a historic achievement and conveyed her pride in the efforts taken by the team involved in making this possible. 

Senior minister of Punjab Mariam Aurangzeb highlighted the success was brought about with the help of local expertise, unlike the previous UAE-backed experiment. 

The event is viewed as a sustainable step towards addressing Punjab’s smog crisis by the government and showcasing Pakistan's growing technological capabilities.
