The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has officially announced the expansion of its public Wi-Fi initiative, doubling its footprint across the province to enhance digital accessibility.

According to PSCA officials, the number of free Wi-Fi access points in Lahore has been expanded from 230 to 430.

Additionally, the service is now increased from 11 to 22 districts, including Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, Attock, Hasan Abdal, Sahiwal, Okara, and Murree.

With this move, the Punjab government aims to improve internet access across urban and semi-urban areas in Punjab.

According to PSCA data, more than 37.22 million users have benefited from the service to date, with a total data usage of over 905 terabytes.

The figures underscore the growing demand for reliable and free internet access in public spaces.

To meet increasing usage demands and ensure enhanced performance, the PSCA has upgraded its infrastructure to Wi-Fi 6 technology.

This transition is expected to offer users faster internet speeds, lower latency, and more stable connections, especially in high-density areas.

Notably, the PSCA’s free Wi-Fi project showcases the government’s broader aim to promote digital inclusion and smart city solutions.

According to a PSCA spokesperson, the service is intended for emergency and essential usage, including access to email, online education, the Women's Safety App, and emergency communication.

PSCA suggested that citizens refrain from using the service for video streaming or entertainment purposes to ensure bandwidth availability for critical requirements.
