Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi has announced that the federal government was heavily prioritising major infrastructure development in Pakistan Railways, particularly the ML1 Railway corridor.

The railway minister revealed that the government plans to modernise the railway infrastructure and align it with international standards.

Moreover, the government is focused on enhancing governance and introducing modern systems within Pakistan Railways.

Notably, a budget of Rs 350 billion has been allocated for the modernisation of railway stations in Punjab.

Pakistan Railways will uplift eight branch routes across the province. Additionally, 40 railway stations in Punjab would be equipped with free Wi-Fi services.

While similar talks were underway with the Sindh government for similar collaboration to upgrade various railway routes, he added.

“Once operational, ML-1 will significantly benefit the public. Meanwhile, preparations for investment in ML-2 are also underway,” Abbasi stated.

Previously, the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government launched the enhanced Pak Business Express, a revamped train service between Lahore and Karachi, aimed at regaining public trust in Pakistan Railways.

Moreover, the service features air-conditioned compartments, online booking options, modern waiting areas, and reception points, all developed to improve passenger comfort and reliability.

With the development of Pakistan Railways, the prime minister said that it is part of a broader agenda to reform public sector institutions and boost national infrastructure.
