Grand Theft Auto VI is not a typical sequel, it's the next instalment in a franchise that has revolutionised open-world gaming for more than two decades.
And with the launch of its most-awaited second trailer, Rockstar Games has made one thing abundantly clear: they're not holding back.
GTA VI second trailer
The trailer, recorded in its entirety on a PlayStation 5, is not just a visual feast, it's a demonstration of where next-gen gaming is going.
Unlike most trailers that blur the distinction between in-game footage and cinematic renderings, Rockstar ensured that all scenes presented are actual gameplay or in-engine cutscenes.
From high-speed pursuits down sun-kissed streets to neon-lit cityscapes and hyper-realistic character animations, it's a technical show of strength that says a lot about what's in store.
The blending of action and storytelling feels seamless and silky, almost as if Rockstar is attempting to blur the distinction between playing and viewing.
However, Rockstar intervened before fans could start preparing for a 2025 release.
GTA 6 release date
In a move that left many sad but few surprised, the studio revealed that GTA VI will instead come out on May 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Rockstar explains the delay is to "deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve."
