A significant step towards enhancing cybersecurity has been taken with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC).
Strengthening information exchange, enhancing defences against new online threats, and enhancing overall cyber resilience are the objectives of the agreement.
Senior representatives from both organisations, including SECP Commissioner Mujtaba Ahmed Lodhi and NTC Managing Director Maj Gen (R) Ali Farhan, were present when the Memorandum of Understanding was signed at NTC Headquarters in Islamabad.
The partnership's main objectives are to detect and address cybersecurity threats, exchange technical knowledge, and implement best practices to fortify security frameworks.
Moreover, the partnership will also include incident response training, collaborative cybersecurity technology research, and standard compliance enhancement, including ISO 27001 compliance.
In accordance with national cybersecurity regulations, the partnership will also create Sectoral Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) and emergency response mechanisms.
Maj Gen (R) Ali Farhan, Managing Director of NTC, stressed the value of solid collaborations in building a safe and effective digital infrastructure.
In addition to optimising service delivery, he stated, "By leveraging our collective strengths, we can ensure that critical data and infrastructure remain protected from unauthorised access and exploitation."
SECP Commissioner Mujtaba Ahmed Lodhi acknowledged the importance of all regulatory bodies working together and commended NTC's continued role in advancing cybersecurity.
The MoU establishes the groundwork for future collaborative efforts in cybersecurity development at the national level and represents a significant turning point in the two institutions' digital cooperation.
