The Sindh government has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Google on Wednesday for the Digital Journalism programme, aimed at promoting credible journalism and transparency.
Addressing the ceremony, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced the launch of the People’s Information Technology Programme (PITP), describing the success as “a matter of pride.”
Highlighting the achievements of the PITP, the chief minister said that the programme had equipped students with global-standard IT skills, enabling more than 4,300 young people to actively contribute to economic activities.
Moreover, he highlighted that women’s participation and representation from rural areas had been a crucial part of the programme.
The chief minister announced that Rs1.4 billion has been allocated for PITP-II, under which 35,000 students will receive advanced training in 12 modern technologies.
Notably, leading institutions, including NED University, Mehran University, and Sukkur IBA, will provide training to the students. Students ranging from matriculation to graduation level will be eligible to apply.
The chief minister explained that the Google Digital Journalism programme is a joint venture of the Sindh government and Tech Valley.
Under the “Digital Journalism 2.0” programme, 1,000 scholarships will be awarded to journalists, government spokespersons, and media studies students.
By signing an MoU with Google, the Sindh government seeks to strengthen responsible media practices, improve journalistic standards, and mitigate the spread of misinformation.
