TikTok, which has proven itself to be more than just an app for funny clips and dance crazes, has become an instrument of change, and in this instance, change is incredibly beneficial for pop music.

Across pop, rock, and hip hop, artists — ranging from fresh faces to established global stars —tap into TikTok to catapult their songs into viral moments.

TikTok, for over five years, has pushed numerous tracks to the top of the music charts. `New’ songs to the streaming world, or back to prominence, the platform has given music new life.

Interestingly, musicians, managers, and record labels develop TikTok-specific marketing tactics to promote music, and collide them in videos, that are exposed to millions of users globally and happen to go viral.

Taylor Swift songs comes to TikTok

Even pop icon Taylor Swift can see the potential of a TikTok. Last year, when Universal Music Group (UMG) pulled back its music from TikTok, fans raised their voices to express discontent.

Remarkably, Swift’s songs returned to TikTok when UMG came to a term. Prior to all the news breaking and Swift's album release, she was able to indicate that TikTok is even important to a top-level artist's streaming presence.

TikTok had even launched a Billboard TikTok Top 50 chart to track songs trending on the app. However, the chart was quietly removed earlier this year.

To make things more exciting, TikTok added a new feature called “add to music app” last year. It lets users save songs directly to apps like Spotify and Apple Music.

According to TikTok, songs have been saved over a billion times. A new SoundCloud link is also rolling out for users worldwide.
