TikTok, the popular video-sharing platform, is planning to take on YouTube Music and Shazam with a new feature known as Sound Search, which allows you to find a sound by singing, humming or playing it.
TikTok confirmed that the feature is offered to some users in particular regions and is not yet globally available.
Sound Search provides another way to search for what you’re looking for on the TikTok app. On a platform where song-based trends change immediately, the tool could also help you to find and better understand current trends.
TikTok’s new feature Sound Search is similar to YouTube Music’s song detection tool that allows the users a more effective way to search sounds. However, TikTok’s new feature isn’t designed to find songs but to display your videos that utilise them.

The feature Sound Search does appear to be a bit challenging when it comes to songs that aren’t utilised as sounds in many famous videos. However, the feature doesn't guarantee the right outcome of the search.
According to TechCrunch, the tool is designed to find songs and not TikTok-specific sounds. However, during the testing, it was found that the tool was able to detect TikTok sounds/memes from the popular episodes of “Totally Spies” and “Nobody’s gonna know."
How to access Sound Search feature
The feature can be accessed by tapping the microphone icon in the Search Tab of the TikTok app. However, the company claimed that Sound Search is currently only offered to a select group of users.
There is no information on which regions TikTok users already have this Sound Search feature.
The TikTok app is offered for free on the Google Play Store and App Store, requires an Android phone or an iOS device running iOS 12 or later. You must ensure to have the latest version of the app downloaded to get access to the new features.
