WhatsApp is rolling out new customisable chat themes with up to 20 colour options for the Android version to enhance users’ personalisation experience.

Customisable chat themes on WhatsApp

This new upgrade works similarly to what WhatsApp already offers for the iOS version. Android users can select a default chat theme that will be applied to all conversations, ensuring a consistent look across the app.

However, instead of being restricted to similar themes across the app, users can also select different themes for specific conversations.

To set a different theme for any specific chat, users just need to tap the overflow menu within conversations and choose the theme option to customise the chats as they please.

In this way, users can use different WhatsApp themes for personal chats, work-related conversations, and group chats.

Notably, this chat theme customisation is private. When a user selects a theme for a specific chat, it will only be visible on their device while the recipient of the chat will not see any changes, meaning the user can enjoy their own personalised chat experience without imposing it on others.

This customisable chat themes feature is currently available to some beta testers with WhatsApp version 2.24.21.34 and will be rolling out to more users over the coming weeks.
