WhatsApp is reportedly working to roll out a feature within the app that will allow users to apply effects to the camera.
Previously, such effects were only available during video calls, enhancing the overall video calling experience by allowing users to personalise their interactions using visual tools.
However, the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.20.20 update highlighted that the instant messaging app has further refined this feature by allowing users to integrate these effects into the camera, giving them even more creative liberty over their photos and videos.

Here’s how WhatsApp camera filters work
Within the camera interface, a new filter button has been introduced that allows users to apply filters with just a tap, making it easier for them to enhance photos and videos.
Using this new button, WhatsApp users can easily toggle through various filters, allowing real-time adjustments prior to capturing their photos and videos. The feature will work similarly to how Instagram’s story filters work.
Additionally, users will also find skin-smoothing filters among others which would help them enhance their complexion by minimising uneven skin tones.
Furthermore, WhatsApp has also integrated the background-changing feature, earlier available in video-calling, letting users replace their real-world background with virtual scenes to get a more professional look.
Currently, the new filters feature for the camera interface on WhatsApp is available to select beta testers only and will be rolling out to the public shortly.
