Adding to the stream of digital services being affected by unidentified issues, reports began flooding the internet about a bug affecting Apple Pay users in Hungary.

The development has been brought to light by several Hungarian media outlets and users across the country complaining about non-consensual transactions being triggered out of the blue.

Irrespective of the Apple device type, the malfunction has taken a toll on users with any Apple Pay-compatible device, be it an iPhone, an Apple Watch, a Mac, or an iPad.

Apple Pay issues today

While some users became the victims of multiple transactions, the issue has reportedly also impacted most of the Hungarian banks, according to MacRumors.

Although the Apple Pay issue normally is said to be prompting numerous, consecutive small transactions, a user shed light on an unfortunate occurrence of his account being debited with 1,500 USD as a result of 74 back-to-back transactions.

Apple Pay issues today were quoted by one of Hungary's national news organisations to be a problem on Apple's end that they have flooded even the most prominent banks countrywide with user complaints and requests for help.

"Massive, unjustified debits" were made to cards issued by multiple banks in the country to their customers, with the problem being looked into thoroughly to resolve it, OTP Bank in Hungary said in its statement.

"We inform our customers that due to a technical problem with an external partner, the bank cards of some of our customers may have been incorrectly charged by the Apple App Store. Our colleagues have contacted Apple officials, the problem is being resolved," stated the statement on Raiffeisen Bank's website.
