The recent floods in Pakistan have aggravated existing sluggish telecommunication services and internet woes in the country by destroying infrastructure, leaving netizens wondering when and if the flood-affected telecom sites will be restored.
90% of telecom towers restored after flood damage: IT minister
In the midst of this, State Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja has revealed that 90% of the telecom towers have been successfully restored across Pakistan.
In an interview with a private news channel, she said 90% of the damaged towers have been restored, and teams on the ground are stabilising services. "The PTA, USF, and NTC teams did an excellent job in managing this crisis," she mentioned.
At the same time, the IT minister also linked the underperforming internet services to recently damaged submarine cables, reported near Jeddah, in the Red Sea.
"Five cables were damaged at the same time, four., around September 6 and 7, and one earlier," she maintained.
It was also outlined by the IT minister that the total impact on Pakistan was 1.3 Tbs, but redundancy left the net impact on Pakistan at 400 Gbs, mitigating the impact to the end users.
