OpenAI is considering adding ads to its AI chatbot, ChatGPT. As this advanced tool has been used by millions of people to get answers, generate ideas, and write content. To make more money, OpenAI may explore new ways, including showing ads to its users.
According to reports, its money-making avenues are both through API services offered to developers and paid ChatGPT plans available on a monthly subscription starting with $20 per month available for personal or business plans.
However, the firm intends to identify additional growth opportunities to bolster its business. OpenAI chief financial officer Sarah Friar claimed that the firm is also "weighing up an ads model.”
She said: "Though the company sees good growth in its current plans, the company remains open-minded about looking into advertising someday."
ChatGPT will have ads soon
If ads do come to ChatGPT, OpenAI plans to use them carefully. They want to make sure the ads don't interrupt user experience.
However, for now, there are no active plans to bring ads to the platform. CEO Sam Altman is also not a fan of ads; thus, it's unlikely they'll appear anytime soon.
Nevertheless, OpenAI has included ad experts from big companies such as Google and Meta, thus meaning that the company is preparing for ads later if needed.
ChatGPT paid plans through Apple integration
OpenAI is also planning to make its premium plans more appealing in other ways.
OpenAI will be prompting users of Apple iPhones who have iOS 18 or later versions to update to the premium version of ChatGPT via the Settings app. The upgrade push will likely attract many users to paid plans.
