According to the officials, Sri Lanka's low-cost airline FitsAir will start direct flights between Colombo and Lahore from January 20, further improving the air connection between the two countries. It will offer two flights per week, every Tuesday and Saturday, with its Airbus A320 plane.
According to the airline, the new route shall allow Pakistani travellers an affordable option to access Colombo while offering convenient onwards connections around the region.
FitsAir said the Colombo–Lahore route is part of its broader strategy to expand its regional network and tap growing demand for affordable air travel across South Asia.
Low-cost international options between Pakistan and Sri Lanka are limited, making the new service a notable addition for travellers on both sides.
Moreover, ExpoAir began flying in 1997, offering cargo service, both domestically and internationally. For over two decades, the airline carved out a niche as a mainstay logistics carrier to maintain service during periods of Sri Lanka's particular political and economic instability.
In 2022, it was rebranded under the name FitsAir and ventured into the area of carrying passengers through aviation services. FitsAir marked a new era in aviation services being the first privately owned airline in Sri Lanka that conducted international commercial flights.
Notably, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has also expanded its international services. Following the resumption of flights to the UK towards the end of 2025, the national carrier has started direct flights between Islamabad and Manchester. They are now set to initiate four non-stop flights every week from Islamabad to London, starting March 29, 2026.
