The federal cabinet in Pakistan has approved a major change in its visa and traveling regime in an aim to improve security and transparency.

The newly introduced Visa Clearance System seeks to provide easier and more secure visa facilitation for citizens of Pakistan in foreign countries. The issue of visa reforms in Pakistan has also become one of utmost significance in light of increased global regulations on international traveling.

This decision came at a time when many nations are denying visas in large numbers due to issues related to lack of background checks or fraud.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has already ordered more robust checks for travel documents, in addition to an AI-powered travel screening service being introduced in January next year, which will enable the detection of forged visas and traveling documents in Pakistan before traveling abroad.

According to officials, the visa clearance system in Pakistan is intended to weaken the power of dishonest visa agents and rebuild confidence in partner nations.

Lately, warnings in regard to the fake travel documents in Pakistan have been common, and this has had negative impacts on honest travelers.

The online Visa Prior to Arrival (VPA) platform, launched earlier this year, has already processed more than 142,000 successful visas in six months. The system has made it easier for tourists and business travelers to apply without lengthy paperwork.
